Begs is a 17 meters long sperm whale. She was born along the Azores archipelago.

Recently she heard about whaling for the first time, which left her devastated. Having such a friendly relationship with the locals, it was hard to believe that once the Azorean people hunted her ancestors. But worse was to find out that in some countries, as Iceland, Norway and Japan whales are still being hunted.

Begs decided to embark on an exciting quest, hoping to inspire the people of Iceland, Norway and Japan to stop whaling, by telling them about the Azorean success story.

During her trip, Begs will realise it’s impossible to separate the threats presented by commercial whaling from those of marine pollution, commercial by-catch, or over-fishing.
